HOW TO DO A SYSTEMS TEST ON YOUR CABELA’S® GUNDOG IN-GROUND FENCE™ SYSTEM
Always remove the dog’s collar and safely contain him before beginning any troubleshooting.
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED TO PERFORM SYSTEMS TEST
- Fully charged collar
- Transmitter
- Test Light Tool
- Fresh Piece of Wire
- Wire Cutters
Ensure the plug is securely inserted into the wall outlet and transmitter.
Remove the boundary wires from the transmitter. Please contact Customer Care for further assistance if you do not see the wire break icon.
Unplug the transmitter from the wall outlet.
Remove the wall unit from the wall by sliding it up and off the mounting screws. Then place it on the floor.
Cut a new 15-foot length of boundary wire from the spool. Do not use any other wire for this purpose; use only boundary wire rated for outdoor, in-ground use.
Make sure to remove the wire completely from the spool. Failing to do so will cause the system’s test not to work properly.
Strip 3/8 inch of insulation off each end of the 15-foot wire.
Plug the ends of the 15-foot wire into the boundary terminals. Lay the wire out on the floor so that it is not touching itself and resembles a circle. Plug the unit back into the wall outlet.
Increase your boundary width to 15 feet.
Make sure your collar contact points are the same length and hand tight. Set the collar to the highest correction level.
Visit HOW DO I CHANGE THE CORRECTION LEVEL ON CABELA’S CONTAINMENT FENCE COLLAR for more information.
While standing at least 3 feet outside of the wire circle, hold the collar box in your hand at your dog’s head height. Use the Test Light Tool on the contact points or simply observe the light on the collar as you walk slowly in towards the wire circle. Do not swing the collar. Once the collar flashes red, it is indicating correction. Take note of where the collar activates.
Due to the short length of the wire on the Systems Test, it is expected that the warning zone may seem non-existent and the difference in where the collar activates will be minimal.
Set the boundary distance to 5 and repeat step 11. If the collar activates slightly closer to the boundary wire, your system is functioning as it should.
INTERPRET YOUR TEST RESULTS
- If your wall unit did not have a wire break icon on the Systems Test, contact Customer Care.
- If your transmitter alerted you to an issue by not having a wire break icon before completing the Systems Test, you have a Full Break in your yard wire.
- If your system appeared to work normally with your yard wire plugged in but the wire had dead zones, or the wire break icon was on and then would go out after a delay, you have a Partial Break in your yard wire.
- If your wall unit has a wire break icon with your yard wire plugged in but the collar Is correcting in the safe zone, you are experiencing an amplified signal.
- If your collar corrected in the same location when the dial was set to 5 and 10 on the Systems Test, contact Customer Care.
- If your collar did not correct at all, contact Customer Care.
