HOW TO FIT A SPORTDOG® IN-GROUND FENCE™ COLLAR

Avoid leaving the collar on your pet for more than 12 hours per day to prevent skin irritation. If skin irritation does occur, stop using the collar and call your vet.

While your dog is standing up, hold the contact points on the box of the collar to the dog’s throat directly under their chin. Ensure the contact points touch the dog’s skin.

If the contact points are not touching the skin, replace the short contact points with the long contact points. If the long contact points are already in use, trim the fur in this area, but do NOT shave it. In colder months, your dog’s fur will become thicker and may require a change to the long contact points.

Tighten the collar strap so that the collar remains in this position. If the dog shakes or scratches at the collar it should not move. If it does, it is not tight enough. Check this by gently attempting to shift the collar on the dog’s neck. The skin should move with the collar. Additionally, you should be able to fit one finger behind the contact point while your dog is wearing the collar.

Allow your dog to wear the collar for about 10 minutes, and then recheck the fit. The collar may become looser as he relaxes.

If your dog is full grown, you may cut the the excess strap and melt the cut end with a lighter or finish the end with a clear tacky glue to prevent fraying. Just make sure you remove the collar from the dog once you’ve measured the excess. If your dog is still growing, leave some of the excess to grow into.
